eBay Ontrack to Sunset the Old “Sell Your Item” Form
Tears didn’t start to fall but I was disappointed to learn that eBay’s original “Sell Your Item” form will cease to exist after May 2007. The old form’s replacement has been in production for the last six months, and while it looks “nicer” it doesn’t reveal all available listing options by default as the old form did. So what’s the big deal? Simple, if a listing option doesn’t appear by default, it’s all too easy to forget the option exists or pull your hair out in frustration when you can’t find a specific option (e.g. International shipping). Fortunately turning on all available listing options is very simple.
When I list an item for sale on eBay, I prefer to see all available listing options even if I don’t plan to use them. Since the new form “hides” certain options by default, I need to “show” everything before I get too far in creating my listing. The option to “Hide/Show” only appears on the form once I’ve filled in a title and selected a category. After that initial task the “Hide/Show” option appears at the top of the form.

Once I click on the link, the “Hide/Show” dialog box appears in the forefront of my page and makes everything behind it go slightly dim. In this dialog box I click on each of the section headings on the left hand side and just enable each option by placing a check mark next to it.

There are, of course, a few options I don’t enable (e.g. digital item) and several options I enable I never even use. In time I’ll probably adapt to the new form and start “hidding” things I don’t need to see anymore; however, until that time comes, I “show” almost everything in order to make the new “Sell Your Item” form look as close to the old form as possible.

I used that old form once. Yuck! It was terrible. Glad to see eBay plans to bury it soon. I must admin, however, I have gotten frustrated looking for certain options with the new form. Fortunately, I think it remembers your selections from one use to the next. At least that is what I’ve experienced.
