TechTraction’s Friday Finds for 08/03/07 - No Self Pings

In my opinion, the comment section beneath a post is where the interactive discussion between reader and author takes place. Sometimes the discussion takes place just between the readers, and sometimes the discussion inspires subsequent discussions at other blogs. Typically those types of “launch points” appear in the discussion thread in the form of a pingback.

Unfortunately, if I write a post and reference a previous post in the form of a link, then a pingback appears in the discussion thread of the referenced post. I don’t like it when that happens because I think it “muddies” the comment thread. I’d like to prevent that type of automatic self-pingback, but how? The answer is obvious, search for a plug-in to prevent that default WordPress behavior.

Fortunately, I didn’t have to look far to find a plug-in to solve my automatic self-pingback problem. The plug-in aptly named “No Self Ping” available at BlogWaffe solves my problem. Download it, upload it into your plug-in directory, activate it via the WordPress Dashboard and no more self-pingbacks. Life is good.
