Make Money Blogging - Is it really that easy?
One of the network morning shows (can’t remember which one) recently did a segment about making money online in which they presented a sure fire way to succeed:
- Sign up for a free blog
- Create good interesting content
- Sign up for Google Adsense
- Sit back and watch the money come rolling in
If it were only that simple.
I completely despise these shows that try to cover technology in 2 minutes. They do a terrible job and usually provide completely misleading information. In the case of this show at least they got some of steps correct. I agree with step 2, and some of step 3 but as for step 4 — well, I’m still waiting.
Bottom line, lots of people have blogged about how to be a successful blogger. In my humble opinion, there is no sure fire approach. There are several things you can do to improve your chances at success, but they won’t guarantee success.
Look around, there are lots of great blogs out there with small audiences and making only pennies. There are also some highly successful blogs with lots of readers and making a very respectable salary. Why one blog succeeds and another one fails is not easily understood. In fact I’d go so far as to say that blogging success is a complete mystery tittering on “pure luck.” Yes, we’d all like to think there is blogging success formula and that if you have good content “they will come.” But the truth of the matter is that blogging success is similar to the 1970’s Pet Rock craze — it makes no sense whatsoever so just throw it against the wall and see if it sticks.

Hi, in my exeperience it’s not absolutly simple make REAL money with advertising in internet blog. I think that if you really want you can, but with years of hard work. The steps are:
1) Publish great content.
2) Stay in touch with the world news that you write about. [digg/reddit/delicious/stumble upon].
3) In those social news network become a power user. [build your personal network of friends, etc etc]
4) Know all about SEO and SERP
5) Read many blogs and publish good comment to have pingback
6) Join blog networks.
In my opinion this will take you about 6 hours a day.
My question is… Does it value all this time?
Sorry for bad english, best regards, Riccardo Giuntoli.
Thanks for the comment Riccardo. Yes, I agree with your assessment — it takes years of hard work. In the meantime, if the main stream media continues to cover blogging as a “get rich quick” part-time job, then get ready for a big surge in new blogs. Of course, it’ll only take about 4 weeks for each of these blogs to die once the realize it’s “not that easy.” Thanks again for your comment.
I think I saw a tease for the show you’re talking about. And I agree with you, it’s a lot more work but that’s fine. They can pen it to be anything they want, just gives us hard workers a better chance to succeed. (#):)
I hope that’s what the “gold rush” mentality brings us; however, I’m not working nearly as hard at blogging as I should. Ugh.
Thanks for the comment Bush.
You got it dude. And don’t beat yourself up over it! Recently I started a new site with a friend and he was grilling me everyday about how slow my server was. Well thanks to him I changed servers, lost my previous design and have been forced to do some serious work on things.
I think it will do great things for my bottom line and future as a blogger. Maybe you need a reason to rededicate yourself to things too. *shrugs*
If one blogs to earn money, I agree with you that it may or may not succeed and luck will play a factor. But I’d say a much better chance at earning money will be one blog which is written by someone who really has something to say and likes to write and like to blog. This combined with a little awareness of what needs to be done to earn will bring success, financially as well, apart from being in community, friends, sharing thought etc. As someone great once said, pick a job that you like to do, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life..!
