Friday Finds for 06/27/2008: Free Online File Storage

Back up your hard drive dataYou’ve heard the warning so many times you can probably recite it like a mantra - back up your hard drive data, back up your hard drive data. Despite the repeated warnings, many of us simply don’t take action. Some of us procrastinate while others of us foolishly believe that a disaster could never happen to us. Whatever the reason, the end result is the same: we’re simply not backing up our data like we should.

There are lots of different ways to back up your data. You can burn your important files to a CD or DVD, copy files over to an external hard drive, and you can also use an online service to back up your data. Due to a recent hard drive failure I’ve been taking a closer look at these services. And while most of these services require a monthly subscription, there are some online options you can use for free. If that’s where you want to start your investigation, then check out this list I found at econsultant.com.  It looks a little old, but I believe it’s still useful.

  2. On the subject of file backup, sharing and storage …

Online backup is becoming common these days. It is estimated that 70-75% of all PC’s will be connected to online backup services with in the next decade.

Thousands of online backup companies exist, from one guy operating in his apartment to fortune 500 companies.

Choosing the best online backup company will be very confusing and difficult. One website I find very helpful in making a decision to pick an online backup company is:

    http://www.BackupReview.info

This site lists more than 400 online backup companies in its directory and ranks the top 25 on a monthly basis.

  3. Thanks for the info Jennifer. Hopefully anyone that reads my post will find your comment and take a look at the site referenced. I checked it out and is exactly as the name states: a backup review site.

    Thanks for the comment.
