Friday Finds for 09/19/2008 - Media Convert

Without a doubt, the number one computer task that causes me the greatest frustration has to be anything that involves video manipulation. There are simply too many video formats out there and each one seems to required you install yet another codec just to view the file. Something is always in the wrong format to do what I want and I always end up spending more time than I planned on converting the video file just so I can do some minor edits. It drives me crazy!

Media Convert has made my video conversion headaches disappear

Recently I found what I am calling a virtual online video format savior: Media Convert. This service is simply amazing.

  1. Upload your video, picture, sound, document, or archive file (provided it’s less than 150 MB)
  2. Double check the auto detected source file format
  3. Select a destination file format and launch

Within a few minutes a download button appears. Click the button and download the converted file back to your computer in the new format. It’s simply amazing.

My experience with Media Convert

I’ve only used it to convert small MP4 files into .MOV or AVI files but it has worked flawlessly each and every time. The service is totally free (so obviously the site is filled with ads — no big deal in my opinion), and you don’t need to create any kind of account. Just show up, upload, and convert. I love it and can’t endorse this online service enough.

If you get frustrated converting media files, then you MUST check out this site.
